Meet the team - Vets

Stephen Speak MRCVS - Veterinary Surgeon/Director

Stephen qualified at Cambridge University in 1985. He enjoys all aspects of being a small animal vet, especially medicine and soft tissue surgery. Having spent his childhood constantly involved with pets, wildlife and farm animals there was only one profession that would ever be right for Stephen. After brief jobs in London and Hampshire he stumbled across the South Downs and never wanted to leave.  His three boys were all born in Brighton and went to Priory School in Lewes.  Stephen  feels very privileged to have known so many wonderful pets and owners for so many years. Long may it continue!

Iain McGill MRCVS Veterinary Surgeon

Iain started at Meridian in January 2014 and graduated from London University in 1988.  After spells working as a veterinary scientist, he returned to small animal practice in London, then moved to Brighton in 2003.  Iain enjoys all aspects of small animal veterinary work. He has a large, shaggy Lurcher called Benji. Iain plays a lot of badminton, and loves to travel in Africia.

 Jessica Upchurch MRCVS Veterinary Surgeon

After a short time working as a Zoologist, Jess qualified in 2011 from the Royal Veterinary College. Jess has just moved to Brighton after working for the last 4 years in London and joined Meridian at the beginning of January 2015.  She enjoys all aspects of working as a vet but particularly feline medicine and soft tissue surgery. Having grown up in cornwall Jess is thrilled to be back by the sea even if her nervous rescue cat Polly is scared of the seagulls. In her spare time Jess enjoys live music, running and exploring all that the South Downs has to offer.
